About the Book
A mother and her children face the challenges that come along with learning, growing, and changing. As each new hurdle presents itself, her children come to her for help. Mother always reminds them of a very important truth: “You can do hard things.”
In a series of vignettes, You Can Do Hard Things presents the trials and tribulations of childhood and adolescence including monsters beneath the bed, learning to apologize, and navigating both love and heartbreak. With a focus on the relationship between parent and child, this story imparts a mother’s lesson not only unto her own son and daughter, but unto readers young and old. |

Reviews
A heartfelt picture book that will stay with readers through the years."
—Kirkus Reviews
"Dana Sutton’s new book, You Can Do Hard Things delivers a positive and reassuring message. The children in the story face familiar challenges of youth with the gentle guidance of their mother who always reminds them that they can do hard things. It’s an important lesson for young and old.
Teachers will find it to be an excellent classroom discussion starter for young students, and children will delight in cuddling up with their parents and caregivers for shared reading time. The repetitive vocabulary will allow beginning readers to read some pages aloud while Big Buddies or adults read the other pages.
The simplicity of Nicolas Donovan Mueller’s illustrations capture the characters’ emotions so well, even the puppies.
During my 32 years as a first grade teacher I would have loved to have this book in my classroom library!"
- Eileen Eliasson, MB
